Editorial
It is a pleasure to bring the Jan 2026 issue of the WIN Newsletter to you.
With the bountiful rainfall across the country, though with local excess or shortfalls, the foodgrain production estimates for the year July 25 - June 26 are 362 million tonnes, against estimated production in previous years of 354 million tonnes. The GST reforms put more money in the hands of consumers, and rural demand has shown signs of pick up. The banking and finance sector also show stabilisation, consolidation and growth.
The increase in incomes generate greater demand for better lifestyle and more goods. While this provides more options to consumers, this requires inculcation of knowledge for sustainable lifestyles and sustainable management of resources. In the Science in Action series in this issue, we take up the importance of training, education, skilling in our domains of water conservation and smart farming. We also show how this is required at multiple levels to enable action at each level, for effective implementation. These range from village community level sensitization, local village level basic water expertise, expertise for various government officers, and deep central level expertise. Our NutriGarden documentary from Jasdan village, screened at the Arogya Film Festival, Pune, emphasizes the strong linkage of sustainability of agriculture and water ecosystems, to the lifestyles and family nutrition.
The issue also provide project updates. We have completed the 1st training batch of the NutriShakti program under the joint project between WIN Foundation and Aagamya Foundation. Now the project will move to next stage.
The monsoon gave our nutrigarden projects a welcome boost, and more women are taking initiative for this. Our women nutri-gardeners are now preparing for the winter season plants.
WIN continues to support innovations. At the recently held finals of the National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition (NBEC) 2025, at Bengaluru, two teams won the WIN awards. Now we plan to support these award winners to introduce their products in our project areas. This will provide our project communities with innovative products, and the startups will get critical market and user feedback.
Do feel free to write to us for any feedback or suggestions for collaboration.
With warm regards
