Project : “Micro-entrepreneurship development and improved nutrition” with the participation of group of women lead SHGs from Machharda village of Kalawad block of Jamnagar district, Gujarat
Project Objectives :· To train 30 - 35 women as Nutritional Food ambassadors, who will work on refined and nutritious food production of multiple items. · To train women in basic overall business functions sales, marketing and pricing strategies.· To bring enterprise awareness among women and to encourage to generate sustainable income· To select 5 to 10 young men and women from the village and surrounding communities, and give them training for the marketing and sales of nutritional products produced in WIN Central Kitchens, through a field oriented marketing and sales training with earning while learning opportunity. This will provide them with opportunity to earn with the sales of nutritious food products made by the women, and also provide them marketing and sales skills which will be useful for future opportunities.· To raise awareness of women and community on health and nutrition, and train them to measure and try to improve community health on continuous basis.
Project Area and Background:
CEE operates in 15 villages of Kalawad block, in Jamnagar District, Gujarat, comprising of population of approx. 25000.
The project aims to cover activities centred in Machharda village of Kalawad block of Jamnagar district, Gujarat. The village has approximate population of 1500. Surrounding villages may be covered if people from these villages show interest and are able to travel to Maccharda for project activities.
Over the past two-three years, 30 women from the community have undergone regular training in healthy cooking, covering everyday meals and snacks. This initiative aimed to improve health indicators, particularly for women and children in rural areas , while also introducing the community to healthier food alternatives. As the women developed their skills, they began to enjoy cooking, and a growing demand for their dishes emerged. Recognizing this opportunity, CEE in collaboration with the women, strategically decided to equip them with entrepreneurial skills to sell these products.
Major activities under this specific project:· Raising Awareness: Educating the women as well as other people across all age groups about the importance of nutritious food.· Enhancing Nutritious Food Production Skills: Training women entrepreneurs in.1 Nutrition, major nutrition components, their importance, sources.2 Preparing healthy and hygienic recipes, testing for safety, nutrition.3 Food based fortification of existing products to make them more nutritious..4 Usage of multiple cooking methods, to enable selection of best method· Strengthening Existing Businesses: Supporting women already engaged in the food business to enhance their kitchen setup, and provide them skills in nutrition, marketing and sales.· Marketing and Sales Team: Select young females from the area and train them on sales and marketing, with practice oriented methodology, including sales visits to Rajkot, Jamnagar, Ahmedabad, etc., preparing marketing materials, prepare and operate whatsapp for business site, preparing customer database etc. The marketing and sales team will be trained on:.1 Marketing fundamentals
.2 Digital marketing.3 Data collection and management.4 Sales through multiple channels, including.4.1 CEE existing sales activities,.4.2 Exhibitions and community events.
.4.3 Digital Sales channel (including digital payment systems)
· Creating Demand: Encouraging low-income communities to adopt nutritious food options by raising awareness and developing products that match market preferences in taste and appeal.
· Health Checkup: Train women and other locals for regular basic (non-invasive) health checkup, to understand its importance, to supplement the activities of Government health centres and their staff.
