National Nutri-Garden School Competition 2026
WIN Foundation, in collaboration with VASCSC, has launched the National Nutri-Garden School Competition 2026, a national-level initiative to promote nutrition, sustainability, and experiential learning among students. The programme encourages schools to develop chemical-free Nutri-Gardens with diverse, nutrient-rich and indigenous plants using eco-friendly practices such as composting, biofertilizers, and natural pest management. It aims to build awareness on soil and plant health, while strengthening the link between agriculture, nutrition, and human well-being.
The initiative also focuses on reviving traditional food systems and promoting locally suitable crops, including millets and native vegetables. Through this process, students gain hands-on exposure to sustainable agriculture while understanding the importance of safe and healthy food systems.
The competition promotes STEM-based learning by fostering leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills through practical, garden-based activities. It also encourages community interaction, with students engaging families and local stakeholders in creating and maintaining Nutri-Gardens. Schools across India, from Std 3 to 12, are invited to participate under different categories. Selected schools will receive support for setting up Nutri-Gardens, access to expert-led sessions, and opportunities to showcase their work and win awards.
We invite Schools to apply and participate in this unique STEM-based initiative that links nutrition, health, and hands-on learning opportunity for students.
For selected schools, there are funds for funds for nutri-garden, online seminars on nutrition, nutri-gardens, and a shot at winning awards.

A 2 days training was scheduled by CEE foR the WIN projects Nutrigardenerers at Junagadh Univeristy on 26th and 27th February 26
Around 40 Nutripreneurs participated in this 2 days residential training.
The objective of this refresher training was to encourage the expansion of Nutri Garden activities and provide practical knowledge on natural farming practices, soil health management, and sustainable vegetable cultivation techniques. These practices help in improving productivity while reducing dependence on chemical inputs. In addition to strengthening household nutrition, the programme also aims to create potential livelihood opportunities for women through surplus vegetable production and related value-addition activities
The two-day training Programme provided valuable knowledge and practical exposure to SHG members on nutrition gardens, organic farming practices, value addition, and small-scale entrepreneurship opportunities. The training enhanced participants’ understanding of sustainable agriculture, nutritional security, and income-generating activities, which will contribute to improving both household nutrition and livelihoods.
The project culminated in a competition to recognize the most effective and sustainable Nutri Gardens across both clusters. Announced during the initial training in May 2025, the winners were selected following field visits by the WIN Foundation team in January 2026. The selection was based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including yield variety, soil health improvement practices, total production, community influence, adherence to the Ganga-Ma model design, and individual initiative.

Green Journey of Ranjan Ben Gabu......
I am Ranjanben Gabu, I am from Bhetsuda village of Chotila taluka of Surendranagar district. I have been associated with the activities of Center for Environment Education (CEE) for the last 4 years and participated in Nutri Garden training program at Sayla and JAU(Junagadh Agriculture University) organized in collaboration with WIN Foundation. After receiving guidance on soil health, plant health and human health in this training, I decided to implement the Nutri Garden model in my farm. Initially, my husband was not willing because natural farming requires more effort. But I was adamant about adopting natural farming, and established a Nutri Garden on an additional 14 x 14 feet of space in my farm. Apart from the indigenous seeds provided under this programmed, I myself sowed crops like potato, sweet potato, onion and papaya, and medicinal plants like basil, mint and aloe vera. They also sowed merry gold and sunflower on the garden borders. These border plants act as natural pest repellents by attracting insects, thus protecting the main crop. Along with this, my family gets nutritious and chemical-free vegetables and vegetable costs are saved, along with biodiversity and soil conservation. Along with this, I am trying to guide and teach natural life control and soil nutrition methods to all the SHG members associated with me so that more sisters can adopt this model. We save more than ₹5,000 per month, which we previously spent on buying vegetables. Our family members who often used to fall sick for one reason or another are now in better health, thanks to the fresh, organic produce from our Nutri Garden. This initiative has contributed significantly to both our economic savings and health improvement. I am truly grateful to the Centre for Environment Education and the WIN Foundation for their valuable support and guidance.
