Govt.official's visit - ACT's Project area at Kutch, Gujarat
In the current phase with ACT, we plan to expand our focus by forming dedicated Water Management Committees to strengthen local governance, ensure community ownership, and enhance the long-term impact of water resource management efforts. These committees will be central to planning, monitoring, and sustaining water-related interventions, fostering deeper community participation and enabling more effective, accountable, and sustainable implementation on the ground.
WIN Foundation, in partnership with KVK and ACT, is offering a fellowship for students outside Gujarat to join the one-year Diploma in Participatory Groundwater Management (PGWM). The course combines hydrogeology, community-based water management, and hands-on fieldwork. It aims to build skilled professionals with a pan-India perspective on groundwater issues.
In Kachchh district, community-led land and water management was implemented across 15 villages (9 in Abdasa and 6 in Mandvi), focusing on groundwater recharge, efficient water use, capacity building, and monitoring. Key interventions included 7 new artificial recharge tube wells, recharge of 68 defunct wells, 4 farm ponds, 4 recharge pits, 3 pond desiltings, and 1 new open well for drinking water. Water-efficient practices involved 120 women-led nutri-kitchen gardens, fodder cutters for 60 farmers, composting and soil moisture tools for 25 farmers each, farm bunding over 150 acres, and 8 farm recharge pits. Capacity building covered training for 8 Bhujal Jankars, 20 groundwater user group members, 21 PGWM committee members, and exposure visits for 35 leaders. Extensive data collection included bi-monthly monitoring of 280 wells, seasonal monitoring of 490 wells, 220 soil samples, and rainfall data from 50 locations to support informed water resource management.
WIN is exploring a collaboration with CEE for a new water conservation project in the Jasdan and Kalawad regions of Gujarat. The initiative aims to promote sustainable water resource management through community engagement, conservation practices, and localized interventions tailored to the specific needs of these areas .
